V alerian is a plant from Europe and Asia. It is also common in the Netherlands.

Valerian can be used as catnip to attract your cats (for example if you have lost your cat). Or to help a stressed or scared cat de-stress or calm down.
Valerian does not work positively on all cats. It does not work at all on some cats and sometimes it can have a negative effect on your cat’s behaviour. That is why it is important to first test (with a sample) whether and how your cat reacts to it.

How to use

Put some valerian (e.g. 10 grams) in a little hot water (20 ml is sufficient) and let it work well in the water. The scent is released in the water. After about 40 minutes you can remove the valerian from the water and throw it away. It is then good to put the valerian water in a dropper (e.g. an old eye dropper or ear dropper).
Then you can put a few drops on your hands and use them to rub the scratching post or cat toys. You can also briefly immerse the toys (if they are small) in the valerian water.
